The wines of Encanto Vineyards are a tribute to the magic created by farm workers and their labor in the fields. No machines could ever take the place of the songs, jokes and the human touch that goes into tending the vines.
My father, Don Enrique Segura, settled in the Napa Valley in the 1950s as one of the first Mexican American farm workers and vineyard managers. We consider him the great wizard of the vineyards and
dedicate our wines to his memory.
Salud!
Enrique Lopez & Rosaura Segura
Proprietors
He worked railroad construction in Stockton, the Santa Clara celery harvest, strawberry fields in Coyote and the vineyards of Napa Valley. After much travel and hard work, Don Enrique gained a steady job with Beringer in 1954. There he was able to obtain permanent residence in 1961. Soon after, he became employed by Robert and Peter Mondavis at Charles Krug. He also played the driver role for Mama Rosa and Cesario (their parents). Separated from his family in Mexico for many years, in he was able to bring back two of his children to Napa in 1968.
Finally in 1972, with the help of his children he brought his wife and the
younger kids to the Napa Valley.
He remained loyal to Krug and worked there until he passed in 1983.
Our History
Don Enrique signed for the Bracero
program in 1946 (guest worker program due to a shortage of workers due to the Second World War). He worked seasonally in agriculture throughout the United States, (the Dakotas, the Carolinas, Montana, Arkansas, Tennessee and Texas) living in substandard conditions.
To make sure that workers went back to Mexico, they were paid through the Mexican government
in Mexico. After his work with Bracero,
Don Enrique came to California in the 1950s
to settle down. continued > >
Our Vineyards
Encanto Vineyards, or Enchanted Vineyards as the name translates from Spanish, are located in both the Carneros Region of Napa Valley and the Big Valley appellation of Lake County in Northern California.
The Carneros Region has a climate similar to Burgundy in France prime conditions for growing Pinot Noir grapes.
The soils of Lake County provide the perfect terroir for producing Sauvignon Blanc grapes.
Both regions offer distinct characteristics
that we are proud to capture in our wines.

Sauvignon Blanc donation from
Lake County
The Viticulture Club is engaged in a variety of educational activities involving the production
and harvest of grape and grape products.
For the 2011 harvest, the Club chose to make
wine under the Fresno State Winery bond from
a classic white wine varietal, Sauvignon Blanc. Thanks to the help of one of it's student members, Horacio Lopez-Segura, and his father, Enrique Lopez, they were able to get a half ton of premier fruit donated to the Viticulture Club for this project. The fruit was grown in Lake County, CA at the family run Encanto Vineyards, established in 2001.
The Club plans to pour its Sauvignon Blanc at the upcoming Fall Harvest BBQ this November 12th!
